Abstract: This study focuses on investigating the accuracy of information propagated through social media platforms regarding the prevalence of water shortages in East Africa. Social media has become a potent tool for disseminating news and information, but it also raises concerns about the veracity of the content shared. In this research, we aim to critically assess the validity of rumors circulating on social media concerning widespread water shortages in the East African region. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, including content analysis and data comparison with reliable sources, we aim to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the accuracy of these claims. The findings of this study will contribute to a better understanding of the role of social media in shaping public perceptions of critical issues and will underscore the importance of verifying information from credible sources before accepting it as true.
