Horn Fact Check is Somalia’s first and only dedicated fact-checking service.  

We are a non-profit Community Interest Company set up to promote accuracy in public debate and the media in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. 

Bad information erodes trust in reliable sources of information in Somalia and other regions within the Horn of Africa. It increases apathy, undermines public confidence, and reduces participation in the democratic process. Misinformation and disinformation places hurdle between people and the reliable information and data they need to understand the world around them and make informed decisions. 

Horn Fact Check works to reset this dynamic and ensure people are well-informed, feel empowered and can evaluate the information they interact with and think critically.  

We publish debunks on claims made by politicians, celebrities, news organisations, and viral citizen posts on social media platforms, websites, and other digital publications. We also provide training in fact-checking and media literacy. 

We provide the public with accurate, fair, and reliable fact-check articles and explainers. 

Horn Fact Check adheres to the International Fact-Checking Network code of principles with its commitment to non-partisanship, transparency, and fairness.  

We envirion instituting a culture of truth and verification in public discourse and journalism through strategic partnerships between the media, government, civil society organisations, technology giants and the public.
